On his Significant Birthday “ written by Hussain Jayah a lifelong friend of Des.

Honouring The Legend - Desmond De Silva Celebrating His Life in Song! - July 13rd Saturday - 7pm ( Sri Lanka)

I took an early flight from Europe just to be time for the “tribute to Desmond De Silva” show held at the BMICH today (13 July ‘24). The show painstakingly n meticulously organised by Damayantha Kuruppu.
Firstly, Happy Birthday to you in Heaven Des.

The prelude to the main event was very good. With Dalreen Suby, a colleague of Des, bringing the “Spitfires” days back in action, with a nostalgic opening of “ I am a tiger “, and then followed by the dynamic n evergreen Mignonne Fernando’s rendition of Bombay Mere Hai, ably supported by Suraj. Mariazelle then belted out a fantastic performance with a great touch of emotion and Kirthie Abeywickreme (Kit) , menber of the Clan, with his own brand n style, doing a lovely impersonation of MJ n Tina Turner., and of course the talented Melantha Perera performed well.

The second part of the show was dedicated to songs sung by Des.
As the music continued, It unfolds to me what a Great Personality and a Wonderful Human Being Desmond De Silva was. He dined with great Noblemen, but at the same time did not lose his common touch.
Every time he walks on to stage there is an aura of pride, great personality and this impeccably dressed man who speaks so eloquently either in English or Sinhalese with ease, Gets immediately connected with the audience. Most of his songs sung are woven with humorous stories and hence remembered for decades. Never a dull moment.
Desmond De Silva, you are too big for anyone to fill in your shoes, nor can they emulate you, your personality or your fantastic brand of music.

You were Simply the Best !!
Thank you for bringing so much joy n entertainment to Mankind.
Rest in Peace Des
