The Walawwa in Melbourne Celebrating Sri Lanka’s Sinhalese and Tamil New year – by Trevine Rodrigo (Melbourne) The Walawwa in Melbourne continued its tradition of celebrating Sri Lanka’s Sinhalese and Tamil New year which is an important date for expatriates in Australia. In true fashion, the night of entertainment had all delicious trimmings including ‘Rasa kavili’ (Sri Lankan traditional food), a lavish smorgasbord dinner and music dished out by Cameron Colombege and Ebony who did more than justice with their excellent choice of music befitting the occasion. Walawwa owners Shehan Wijewardena and Nash Samarakoon, and newly installed Manager, Desmond Foulstone produced a great night of culinary delights and everything that makes Avuruddu celebrations special, to a sellout crowd that graced the event. Christmas party at the Walawwa with Noeline Honter and Sohan Weerasinghe from Sri Lanka with Andrea Marr and popular band Ebony – by Trevine Rodrigo (eLanka)   As the important day of the Christian calendar fast approaches, joyful parties to are taking place all around Australia. Sinhala & Tamil Avurudu (New Year) Celebrations at Walawwa – Breakout from Lockdown! – By Trevine Rodrigo in Melbourne Sinhala & Tamil Avurudda with a classy array of special events, fabulous cuisine and a mix of politicians and celebrities was the highlight of this year’s Walawwa festivities. The breakout from lockdown last year could not have been more emphatic as Melburnians flocked in large numbers to usher in the traditional Sri Lankan celebrations of Sinhala and Tamil New year and they partied with gusto returning the event to near normalcy in prevailing Covid-19 restrictions.
