Today’s test match between the West Indies and Sri Lanka marks the 200th match being officiated by Ranjan Madugalle as the match referee. Lakshman Wijesekera bids Adieu – Sunil Thenabadu   Veteran singer and musician Lakshman Wijesekera, who made a significant contribution to the field of art as a singer and an actor for nearly five decades, passed away on 12th November while in hospital taking treatment for a prolonged heart illness. He was 73 years old at the time of his demise.   He became popular as an actor from the teledramas ‘Ira Paya’ and ‘Ganga and Nissanka.’ His beloved wife actress Chandra Kaluarachchi pre deceased him just two years ago on 1st November 2019 leaves his daughter Ama and Son. The remains of the late musician will be kept his residence in Mount Lavinia on the  13 Saturday when his final rites will be performed at the Mount Lavinia Public Cemetery on Sunday the 14th.   ...

Countries like England, Australia, South Africa,West Indies,Zimbabwe( formerly Rhodesia) had no problem with the English language where everything connected to the game was in English .Lately with the advent of Asian countries viz India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh the players ,administrators had to be versed in English jargon which most did up to the end of the 1990 decade. All our past cricketers were able to converse well in the English which was the accepted language at international matches particularly for speaking at previews by the skippers, post- match presentations at press conferences when one is adjudicated as “the player of the match” had to answer to questions posed by the presenter at the podium.
