VALE’, CLIVE INMAN – By Des Kelly VALE’, CLIVE INMAN, yet another ‘Legend’ from Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), and someone who was both a friend and College-mate of mine, back in the “fab-fifties”, as I remember them. As everyone knew, this guy was a top Cricketer, we were all very proud to have him at St.Peter’s College, by far, the best College in Colombo, at the time, as well. Clive was in the same ‘form’ & I was proud & privileged to keep his company & boast about his superb prowess on the field,to all & sundry. Then, sadly, we parted company due to mass-migration of the Burghers to various Countries in the World, thereby also losing touch with close friends, in the process. {PeteriteNET:363} NEARING THE CLOSING OF THE CENTENARY YEAR Yesterday, being the 18th of October, we completed nine months of the centenary year of the College beloved to us all Peterites young and old and in three months, on 18th January 2023 the centenary year will come to a close. As Chief Editor of the Centenary Publication (Coffee Table Book), I am deeply conscious of the many photographs that could not be published in same due to space constraints and believe it would be a pity if the many Peterites out there should not see them. Perhaps some may even wish to have them saved for posterity in private albums of their own. “MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS” – by Des Kelly Bambalapitiya Flats by Kevin Clogstoun The building seen in the background of this video wasn’t in existence when I left Ceylon to make a new home in Melbourne, but the memories mentioned are the fact that this particular building and the Bambalapitiya flats was built upon what was once a Seminary garden, right next to the spacious home of Judge St.Clair Swan who was blessed with a total of six or seven beautiful daughters and just one son, David who, in turn was one of my first good friends at St.Peter’s College, where we both attended, to ‘play the fool’, rather than to ever ‘go to School’,as the case may be. 26th JUNE IS WELL KNOWN PETERITE CRICKETER DAVID HEYN’s 77th BIRTHDAY Source: SPC Melbourne FB The Melbourne SPC OBU wish David “Happy Birthday” …..and thank him for his contribution to Sri Lanka Cricket. David Heyn, a left-handed middle-order batsman and an outstanding fielder in the covers, was born on this day in 1945. Peter David Heyn, born on 26 June 1945, played for St Peter’s College from 1961 to 1964, captaining the team in 1964. He played for Ceylon/Sri Lanka from 1966 to 1976. Heyn made his international debut for Ceylon in November 1966 when he was selected for the first unofficial four-day Test played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Heyn, who scored 69 runs against the West Indies in January 1967, stood up courageously to the menacing pace of Hall and King and went on to give an exhibition of quick run making getting his first 25 runs in even ...
