This is Our Cultural Centre, belongs to the whole community, established with the excellent and continuous support from the community, in particular many volunteers supporting activities day and night, JanaShakthi contributors who contributed generously  and every one in the community who contributed in numerous ways. Sinhalese Cultural Centre Declared Open! – Your Support is Vital!   It was a momentous occasion for the Sinhalese community in Sydney, Australia in particular, and for all Sri Lankans living outside Sri Lanka in general, when the ‘Sinhalese Cultural Centre’ was declared open on the 18th of April 2021, in Seven Hills, Sydney Australia by the Hon. Sri Lankan Australians in NSW becoming a credible community.   Early migration of Sri Lankans from their native land to Sydney was in the seventies, with a few families settled in earlier. There were about 30 families in Sydney living in the city and the suburbs, and most of them were professionals, teachers, and a few businesspeople. Meeting most weekends to get together and enjoy a good tasty spicy rice and curry was something that we looked forward, to feel home away from home. We had not collected enough money to purchase cars, but public transport was the mode of travel. So, getting down at the closest railway station, walking along the roadside, until the smell of dhal curry and Basmati boiled rice emanated, and that was the signal to spot the location of the home we were visiting for lunch. Sri Lankan Food Take Away – A Great Success   Sri Lankan Food Take Away – A Great Success The Sinhalese Cultural Centre event “Sri Lankan Food Take Away with Limited Dinning In” held on 21st November was a great success! The Sinhalese Cultural Centre raised in excess of $8.5K (Net) including the donations towards the event. Our community purchased 965 food packets. Our community contributed $2130 as donations towards the event.Our volunteer team of Chefs, serving team and other support teams just made this happen. The event was lead by the Sinhalese Cultural Centre (SCC) and Sinhalese Cultural Forum (SCF) teams. We are very thankful and sincerely appreciate everyone who supported this event in numerous ways! Sinhalese Cultural Centre (SCC) Nite 2019 – A Night of Support – Photos thanks to RoyGrafix The SCC Nite 2019 which is the annual fundraising dinner of the Sinhalese Cultural Centre (SCC) was held with high esteem on the 8th June 2019 at Roselea Community Hall, Pennat Hills NSW. A large gathering of supporters and well-wishers filled the hall to express their support for this unique project to build our own ‘Sinhalese Cultural Centre building’ in Sydney. The Lord Mayor of Parramatta Council Cr Andrew Wilson was the Guest of Honour, Consul of Sri Lanka in Sydney Ms Pramuditha Manusinghe represented the office of Sri Lanka Consul General in Sydney.
