Wijegunaratne hosted a special dinner reception in honor of the 29 members Junior Sri Lankan Squash Team and their coaching staff in Islamabad. The event celebrated the team’s visit and their participation in the ongoing “31st Asian Junior Squash Tournament 2024,” hosted by Pakistan Squash Federation from June 25 to June 30, 2024. In his address, the High Commissioner warmly welcomed the young players and expressed his hopes for their outstanding performance in the competition. He emphasized the importance of focusing on playing a brilliant game and representing their country with pride. Sri Lanka resumes eye cornea donation to Pakistan Source:Dailymirror Colombo, June 20 (Daily Mirror) – Sri Lanka resumed donation of eye corneas to Pakistan. It was stopped following the Covid-19 pandemic, an official said. The latest donation of five corneas were dispatched on a SriLankan Airlines flight to Lahore yesterday night and were received by a team of Pakistani army medical personnel for surgeries to be performed at the army hospital in Rawalpindi, according to Sri Lankan High Commissioner Admiral (Retired) Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne. He is also expected to witness the surgeries. Tribute to My Mother and Salute to Our Medical Staff- by Ravindra C Wijegunaratne Source:Srilankaguardian My late mother was a nurse, a woman of exceptional beauty and strength. She dedicated 41 years to government service and reached the pinnacle of her profession before retiring and working abroad. She spent a few years in Norway and Saudi Arabia before returning home to Sri Lanka after the tragic loss of our sister in a Russian accident. For the next 20 years, she worked tirelessly in private hospitals across the country, including Nawaloka, Asiri, Central, Delmon in Colombo, and Philips in Kalutara, near our home in Matugama. Her final assignment was at Philips Hospital, where she trained young nurses. Despite her reluctance, she retired at the age of 80. Sadly, she passed away at the age of 83.
