In Sri Lanka one such person who was to overcome several barriers, literally as well as metaphorically in the pole vault event was none other than Arthur Cletus Dep. A.C. Dep was born on the 5th March 1917. His father was a teacher at St. Joseph’s College Colombo. Dep studied at St. Joseph’s during Rev. Fr. Le Goc’s era. While at St. Joseph’s he was over awed when G.S. Sivapragasam soared over the bar in the pole vault event at the school’s Inter House Meet.
