“FOR SCEPTICAL SENIORS” – by Des Kelly As we grow older, most of us tend to get sceptical about the happenings around us, so here, Ladies & Gentlemen, are 12 Commandments, written on ordinary paper rather than stone, sent out to us by Keith Bennett, for our individual perusal. Please read them carefully to avoid deep, dire consequences, and thank you Keith, for the advice. Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka. ...

“A VIDEO TO WATCH” – by Des Kelly   Sung by the man who wrote the sing, Kris Kristofferson, backed by dozens of other Country Music Artistes, if this video does not bring a tear to your eye, I would be very surprised indeed. It was both written and recorded in 1972 by K.K.on an album titled “Jesus was a Capricon” and went on to be the biggest hit in his career. This beautiful Country Gospel Song was inspired by another, with practically the same title, “Help me, Lord”, written by another Country Star, Larry Gatlin, and recorded together with the future wife of Kristofferson, who was the beautiful Rita Coolidge. ...

“HELP ME”!! – by Des Kelly Sometimes it seems that the BEST there is, passes you by. This almost happened to me, until my brother Ian, now resident in Sri Lanka sent me this video of Eloise Saayman  singing a Country Gospel Song that I had heard many times before, sung superbly by Gene Watson, the Texas-based Country Icon, a song with, as simple a title, as anyone could think of, which was “Help me”. After hearing Gene sing this song, I did try to find a comparison to his version to no avail, until quite suddenly this version appeared in the messenger column of my ipad, courtesy my brother. I have to admit that I took hardly any notice of this latest message, being extremely busy with my Editorial work for e’Lanka, finally deciding to give ear to what this pretty bespectacled lass had in store for me, and ...

“NOSEY ROSIE” – by Des Kelly This brilliant video was sent to me by the son of a previous Royal Ceylon Navy pal of mine, by the same name of Percival Nagthall, (Percy). His “old man” was one particular Character who remains unforgettable to me. Percy was already a “Senior-Seaman” when I joined up. There wasn’t a single Navy man at the time, who was a better fisherman than old Perc. How he did it, I will never know, but, when HE was fishing, the fish seemed to jump out of the water to take his bait. Other fishermen, it seemed, just had to WAIT !! Another reason (or three), why Percy got on sooo well with me, was the fact that, he did not give a damn about some Officers in the Force, at the time. In addition to the fishing, Percy always liked fixing things, so one day ...

“A GEM OR TWO”-by Des Kelly 1.. Once again, via Keith Bennett, Bertram Daniels, and “Your’s truly” e ‘Lanka members, readers, and fans are privileged/or as the case my be, (this time), subjected to a gem or two, depending on how you would like to look at them. The less said, the better. Here they are, ladies & gentlemen, The first gem has to do with a new James Bond in mind. They have been searching in vain, for someone again, to relive the 1983 movie Octopussy, the Bertram comes in, and says with a grin, “I have someone, if we aren’t too fussy. My new JB, & his 1st feature film, unforgettable. ...

“SOMETHING DIFFERENT”- by Des Kelly   “This isn’t going to change the world”, a strange title for one of the simplest, yet prettiest French songs that I have had the pleasure of listening to, in a long time. As everyone who is reading this will know, my “forte’ happens to be extra-special Country Music, involving ONLY “Stories in song”, or musically-exotic pieces, performed by the top-Stars of Country, exclusively. Songs that listeners will want to hear over and over again. However, there is something different, in that, speaking in a “catholic-mode”, I absolutely love GOOD MUSIC of all types. Be they in English or any other language whatsoever, vocal or instrumental, if the tune is what is termed “Catchy”, & the lyrics meaningful. That said, “Ca va pas changer le monde”, was written by Joseph Ira Dassin, born on the 5th of November, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York City, and ...
