ON MY MIND – by Des Kelly   “What’s up for us folk, in 2023, Nobody knows, as we all agree, I watch television, the A.B.C. News, but, most of their stories just give me the blues. Isn’t there, at least SOME good news in store, just take the S.E.S., A.D.F. people, and more, show us what THEY do and make us feel proud, I’ve had enough of Wars, for crying out, loud. Let’s all be Positive, Negativity’s a curse, at least we’re alive, and not in a hearse. SO, NOW LET ME WISH MY FRIENDS & FAMILY, THE BEST OF ALL NEWS IN 2023 WITH GOD’S HELP, OF COURSE”!!. Desmond Kelly (Mr.Music) (Editor-in-Chief)  e’Lanka.   ...

Another Kelly-Klassic  – “Don’t Break The Heart That Loves You” – by Des Kelly Another Kelly-Klassic. I first heard it in 1962, shortly after migrating to Melbourne. Had always loved this pretty young lady’s rendition of numerous songs recorded for posterity, but THIS ONE has stuck on, in my mind. With lyrics written by Benny Davis, this beautiful song will be remembered by all who listen to it. A simple, yet emotion-filled song, this is, by far, one of my favourites. Please listen, and enjoy what I term GOOD MUSIC Desmond Kelly. (Mr.Music) (Editor-in-Chief)!  e’Lanka. ...

Vale’ Cheryl All of us, at e’Lanka, sadly bid farewell to Cheryl Menezies, beloved  wife of Roger, who has passed away in Sydney very recently. Both Cheryl and Roger were stalwarts of the old “Peterite Clan” & she will be badly missed, especially by those from Roger’s Alma Mater.  Our sincere condolences to Roger,  all her family & friends, and may she now rest in eternal peace, in the arms of God, her Maker.    Desmond Kelly (Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka. Deepest sympathies to Roger Menezies on the huge loss of his wife Cheryl, who passed away yesterday. May her soul rest in peace and God grant strength and comfort to Roger and the family at this very difficult time. No funeral details have been announced. Both Roger, one of Sri Lanka’s most talented musicians and ex-Jetliners, and Cheryl always supported Peterite events in Sydney for decades and she will be badly missed. ...

“IN DEDICATION” – By Des Kelly “This is a very special dedication to my dad, Carlo Kelly, who left Ceylon like so many others to come to Australia to battle on, despite the fact that he was 52 and found it very difficult to find  what was then termed a “blue-collar” or office job, even though he had been a bank-clerk at the Mercantile Bank in Colombo for many years, expert in banking services with ‘writing’ straight out of a text-book. He still continued to work in Melbourne & took on any laborious task offered,  because, like me, later on, he hated the word ‘dole’. Also, like me, my dad, who sadly passed away at 79, loved Country Music & Don Williams was one of his favourites. I would have loved it if he could have watched this with me, but I feel certain that he knows that I have ...

“EARTH’S PEOPLE” – by Des Kelly Have you ever wondered about the other Planets around us. A truly fascinating subject, featuring far too many, for the ordinary man to contemplate. However, this wonderful ‘post’ sent in by Keith Bennett tells us about one, in particular, and those who make it the most intriguing, “little blue ball” that it is, “EARTH’S PEOPLE”.  Desmond Kelly.(Mr,Music). (Editor-in-Chief).  e’Lanka. Earth’s Population Statistics in Perspective Check out the article below. It’s interesting. The one item that jumped out at me is the percentage of people in the world who live to be over 65! If you are reading this e-mail I guess you are one of the few fortunate people. Read below for all the details. Earth’s Population Statistics in Perspective The population of Earth is around 7.8 Billion. For most people, it is a significant figure. However, if you condensed  7.8 billion into 100 ...

“LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT” – by Des Kelly   Certainly worth a repeat, especially for those who have not seen the initial ‘post’. Thank you, Keith Bennett for this most interesting story on LIFE.   Desmond Kelly (Mr.Music) (Editor-in-Chief)   e’Lanka. “SIX LITTLE stories” well worth the 30 seconds to read!   {1} Once all villagers decided to pray for rain.   On the day of prayer all the people gathered,   but only one boy came with an umbrella. That’s FAITH. {2}  When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them.  That’s TRUST.  {3}  Every night we go to bed   without any assurance of being alive the next morning,   but still we set the alarms to wake up.  That’s HOPE {4}  We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.  That’s CONFIDENCE  {5}  We see ...

“JUST SAYING” – by Des Kelly Once again, many ‘sayings’ in English today, are just spoken, without any inkling about the real meaning behind the spoken word. This is presumably why some wise and witty friends write to my friend Keith Bennett who, in turn, writes to us, at e’Lanka, “just saying” how these sayings came about. Please enjoy and pass on to friends, if they listen to you just saying things. Desmond Kelly (Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka. ...
