The Sri Lanka Women’s Basketball Team received a rousing welcome yesterday after their heroics in the Maldives where they successfully defended the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Championship for the second time.

The Sri Lanka Women’s Basketball Team, led by Anjalee Ekanayake, put up a tremendous performance to beat Bhutan 98-33 and the host nation the Maldives 72-59 before finishing on top of the points table.

Sri Lanka, who had won the inaugural SABA Tournament in 2016 in Kathmandu, Nepal were under tremendous pressure after they suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Nepal in their second outing.

However, Sri Lanka came back magnificently and displayed their supremacy in the South Asian region with a clinical performance against the Maldives, that helped them to retain the title once again.
