Venerable Galkande Dhammananda Thero , a Sri Lankan monk of Theravada Buddhist tradition, heads the Walpola Rahula Institute [WRI] .

Walpola Rahula Institute provides educational and training programmes for religious leaders and at grass root level with an aim to support social healing, emphasizing the need of bringing Buddha’s teaching into practice through all its interventions.

On completion of the monastic training Dhammananda Thero obtained his B.A. History in university of Kelaniya. After winning the commonwealth Scholarship in 2003 he completed his Post Graduate studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. Ven Dhammananda is also a full-time lecturer in the Department of History, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.

Venerable Galkande Dhammananda Thero is actively engaged in issues related to social justice and harmony that promotes an inclusive plural society.
