In Memorium: Emeritus Professor Laksiri Dharmasoka Jayasuriya (1931 –  2018) – By Dr. Siri Gamage, Sydney, Australia Emeritus Professor Laksiri Jayasuriya(Laksiri) who was Professor of Social Work and Social administration at the University of Western Australia passed away on April 20th 2018 in Perth. He was the founder of the sociology department at the University of Colombo and led an illustrious career in the Australian academia while contributing to government policy making processes in areas such as multiculturalism, ethnic affairs, immigration and citizenship. He nurtured cohorts of students under his care during his long career in Australia and continued to engage in scholarly activities and publishing after retirement. 60th Wedding Anniversary Celebration, organized by the SLA(NSW) for Dr Harold and Irangani At the monthly gathering of the Seniors Open Day at Warne St. Leisure Centre, Pennant Hills, Sydney, on the 1st May, a surprise party was organized by the committee, to celebrate and share the 60th Wedding Anniversary of Dr Harold and Irangani. It was a sudden eruption, and a surprise: a massive cake was brought with blessings for the couple written in icing, drinks started pouring in, speeches by Walter, Dr. Gnani and Kithsiri, the cameras went flashing taking picture of groups, and it was a momentous event. Sri Lankan tourism representatives farewelled at the Gold Coast Source: Griffith News On Thursday March 29, experts from the tourism sector in Sri Lanka attended a networking event together with representatives from Wildlife Tourism Australia, Griffith University, Scope Global, and other key partners involved in the Australia Awards Sustainable Tourism Development in Sri Lanka Short Course. The networking event and farewell dinner followed a 10-day study tour in Australia for 25 middle and senior management personnel from the industry, government and training institutes and universities from Sri Lanka. With a core focus on improving the participants’ coordination in the planning and management of the tourism sector and developing capacity in tourism destination management, this course was designed to help benefit Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. This 138m long Passenger cum Cargo Ship launched in December 24, 1924 was hit by Japanese carrier aircraft bomber attacks, whilst at anchorage in the Trincomalee harbour on April 9, 1942. the vessel was subsequently abandoned due to a raging fire onboard. Cricket News – South Africa confirm 2018-19 fixtures   Source: Cricket.com.au One-day international focus for Proteas ahead of World Cup, with visits from Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe next summer  Cricket South Africa have announced their home schedule for the 2018-19 season that will involve tours by Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe and focusing on one-day internationals ahead of the World Cup next year. South Africa will play three Test matches against Pakistan and two against Sri Lanka during their 2018/19 summer. The Proteas will also host a total of 13 one-day internationals and nine Twenty20 internationals against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
