“THE PERILS OF PLASTIC” by Des Kelly Everywhere one looks, thru the “Periscope of life”, trouble abounds. Humans are now contemplating reaching out thru “the black-hole” to find another Planet, on which to start new waves of trouble. Earth is steadily becoming too small, and, too weak to stop all the hazards that confront us daily. In Australia, however, nothing seems to concern the folk who follow eLanka with grim determination. It was only the plastic-condom that has prevented our dear Lankan/Aussies from manufacturing MORE Aussies, thereby increasing the “sales” of much more plastic furniture for indoor, but mainly outdoor use. These simple bits of furniture have caused lots of problems, especially for the male gender. I am not going to “spoil it” for you, still I love Aussie humour, the subtle type, where one has to think deeply about what it’s all about. So, here goes my preference of ...

“BEAUTIFUL BAILA” – by Des Kelly This was sent to me by my brother Ian who now lives permanantly in Sri Lanka. He has always known about my taste in music and it is without hesitation that this video goes straight into my Kelly Klassics. I have watched many Lankan Artistes backed up by this band & a guy named ‘Subasinghe’ who is himself ‘a Star’ as far as I am concerned, and this particular ‘group’ of Musos are, or were, the BEST, by far, as far as I am concerned, and the Vocalist Keerthi Pasquel has always been my favourite ‘Singing Star’ of Sri Lanka. In addition, he is one of the very best ‘Ambassadors’ of Music from Lanka. I met him many years ago when he came to Melbourne, and, although he didn’t speak too much English at the time, struck me as a humble, easy-going individual who ...

SIGIRIYA ROCK FORTRESS – by Des Kelly Indeed, a ‘MUST SEE’ spot in Sri Lanka that I think should be one of the wonders of the World, if it already isn’t. The story of this Fortress is in our history books, and I have already published it at least twice, so do not intend to do so again. Personally, I climbed to the top of this mind-boggling ROCK twice. It certainly wasn’t easy, on the first occasion, but they did their best to make Sigiriya an easier ascent for the thousands of tourists still wanting to reach the “Roof-Garden” of King Kasyappa’s temporary home, so when I climbed it the second time, together with Maureen Hingert & family, we did find it much easier. With our thanks to Charles Schokman, let me present this fascinating video to/you, my friends. Desmond Kelly. (Mr.Music) (Editor-in-Chief). e’Lanka..  ...

“Classic Car Diaries: The Iconic Beetle” – by Des Kelly Once again, something quite different for our e’Lanka Members & Readers. All about the old “Beetle” automobile, the car that was first brought out by Adolph Hitler for the German People & no-one else. It was a car, totally manufactured in Germany, under the watchful eye of the Fuherer himself, and this is what makes the story even more interesting. Very few people, not even the Character who owned the little car publicised, seemed to know something about the Beetle, that I am now about to divulge to our readers. I once owned a Beetle, many moons ago and checked this amazing little fact out myself. I had the car fully hoisted in a Service Establishment and personally did spin each tyre around to notice the VW emblem thereon, which then turned out to be a fully fledged “Swastika” cleverly ...

“ON THE CONTRARY” – by Des Kelly   Above, were the famous ‘last words’ of one Henric Ibsen, better known as the ‘Father of Realism’, but was, in reality, a Norwegian Playwright of many long years ago, who was also a famous Theatre Director and generally a well-educated Gentleman of his time. However, even people of this calibre have to die at sometime, and it was just the day prior to his death, when a friend came to see him in hospital and questioned a Nurse who was on duty as to how Henric was, and she answered that he was actually “getting better”. Henric, lying there, on his yet to be, deathbed, stuttered his own diagnosis in his three final words, “On the contrary”, which, in fact, was the correct diagnosis, because the reputed man breathed his last, on the following day. ...

A KELLY KLASSIC – “Mrs Mills Morecambe & Wise Better Quality” – by Des Kelly   It really doesn’t matter as to what we ‘have to watch’ nowadays, THIS, in my opinion, would have to be one of the best combinations of Comedy & Music that I have had the pleasure of seeing, in a long long time. This is why I have nominated it a “KELLY KLASSIC”. Please watch and be ENTERTAINED. ...
