In my youth I wasn’t well disposed towards Thomians. This unease with the blue, black, and blue went back to a time when my father took me, as a child, to the Jayasekera home at Dehiwela. The young Jayasekeras teased me, heckled me and frightened the life out of me. To me they typified Thomians – loud, brash and with little consideration for the feelings of sensitive souls like myself. In the late fifties a Thomian “flicked” my flag at the Oval. “Thomians Hunt in Packs; Never Alone”   My journey through life with my Thomian began with this hunt. In an era when mobile phones, SMS, e-mails and Facebook were unheard of, the hunt was indeed a difficult task. Therefore, thishunt was meticulously planned out at a house located right opposite Bishop’s College (whoever designed it, bless his dear departed soul, certainly had the best interest of young Thomians in mind for it has a large balcony overlooking the grounds of Bishop’s College). Date of the Hunt: 31st October 1981 Venue: Food Fair, Bishop’s College.  ...

Poems by Oscar  E V Fernando Meditation Be still and know that I AM God, said He. Seek me first for you and I are Eternity. Seek within-you will find me in stillness. Then you know you are well within wholeness. You will not clasp Him-till death you depart. But nearer the clasp, you feel well in your heart You saw Him-and came from Him, to your mother’s womb You will search for Him till you rest in your tomb. That’s what the sculptor, painter, artist the singer does. Searching the Perfect with talents they possess. Search till you are no more-for then, Him you will see. Yes, all will see Him-the good the bad and the ugly. Choose at all times the right thing in life to do. For only then, after life, you see Glory through and through. If the wrong thing is willed and done in this ...

But it took them 3 years to learn from their mistakes and finally depart a handsome bunch of gutsy 50 year old Thomians to lift the Morrell memorial shield for the first time in the series at the Fred Caterson Reserve in Castle Hill, this Sydney. ...
