SRI LANKA-SHOWBIZ – by Des Kelly

Talking about “Showbiz” in Sri Lanka today, I would like to present a group of Musicians who, in my opinion, are second to none. Their leader whose name is Sunil Subasinghe, I am told, is a multi-instrumentalist who would be welcomed anywhere in the World. Plenty of the stage- charisma that is needed to lead such a big band, which he does in style. This particular “Tone-Poem” also features Annesley Malawena, who is not only a great guy who has been very successful in “treading the boards” for many long years, but also one of the “greats” of Sinhala- Singing. Together with Chandeepa Jayakody, one of their up & coming vocal talents, they play yet another superb Sinhalese song that I enjoyed very much indeed.

I am very happy to see guys like Sunil Subasinghe now lead bands that “present music” in such a professional manner, where, just a few years ago, they would play their instruments and vocalize as though they were Zombies.

It is very pleasing to see that Sri Lanka Showbiz has taken a turn for the better. Everyone may not understand the lyrics, sung in Sinhala, but will still enjoy the performance of especially this “TONE-POEM” Venture. Please listen folks. I loved it, and so will you.
