Sri Lankan weightlifters excelled at ongoing Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship held in New Delhi ,Indie when three medals one gold ,one silver and one bronze each were won by three weightlifters .M.D Karunaratne Chintana Geethal Vidhanage and Indika Dissanayake yesterday.

The promising weight lifter from Polonnaruwa won gold at 73 Kg category ( snatch 110kg,clean and jerk 145) total 255 kg to win junior gold medal while two experienced senior players Chintana Geethal Vidhanage won silver medal at 81 kg ( snatch 128kg,clean and jerk 162kg) total 290 kg and Commonwealth Games silver medalist Indika Dissanayake of Sri Lanka Navy once again performed well to clinch bronze medal at 73kg (snatch 140kg,clean and jerk 155kg) total 285 kg .in fact this was sixth commonwealth championship medal of Indika Dissanayake.

Indika said to Daily News this Indian tour is more vital to get ranking points for next Olympics while two teams senior and junior from Sri Lanka are competing in this event and hope to win more medals in next couple of days said Dissanayake the former Kingswood weight lifter.

The National coach R.B Wickramasinghe accompanied the Sri Lanka team.
