His Excellency Mr Somasundaram Skandakumar( Skanda as he is known to us all) was educated at Royal College Colombo, where he excelled as a student and was also a brilliant sportsman. In 1966 he received the Best Performance Award at the annual Royal-Thomian Cricket encounter and that year he was also appointed a Prefect of the College.

He graduated in Science from the University of Colombo in 1970 offering double mathematics. He then joined George Steuart & Co and served the Company for 35 years and was finally appointed Chairman of the Board; a position he held with distinction for 8 years.

In the field of Cricket he was Assistant Secretary and finally Vice Chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka.(BCCSL) .In the words of the then Chairman of the Board, Mr Rienzie Wijetileke, “Skanda restored the credibility and image of the BCCSL in the eyes of the ICC”. When he chaired the Commission of Inquiry into the nation’s cricketing and administration standards in 1994, his report was titled the” SKANDAKUMAR REPORT”. It was a blueprint for change and reform. Two years later, in March 1996, Sri Lanka went on the win the ICC World Cup.

As a speaker, Skanda is well regarded and he will share his vast experience and knowledge with you in matters of Cricket, the Plantation industry and the dawn of a new era in Sri Lanka and the bonds of friendship that exists between Sri Lanka and Australia. Dress Code: Smart Casual
