Savish Corporation, organiser of the Miss Sri Lanka Australia pageant for the fourth year running, launched the first South Asia Australia Pageant in Australia at a cocktail event on 6 August 2017. The Pageant, another first of its kind, will be held on 24 September 2017 at the Box Hill Town Hall.

The Pageant will offer to young Australians of South Asian heritage an opportunity to develop as young leaders, showcase and integrate through fashion and beauty their country’s culture into the fabric of multicultural Australia, and empower them to engage in pivotal community roles and provide a voice in shaping Australia’s society of tomorrow.

The Pageant will be theme based and participants will help to create awareness of domestic violence, a major issue in South Asian countries.

Pageant Director, Dilkie Perera, said, “Organising many South Asian Bridal Shows in the past six years and seeing the amazing costumes and witnessing culture and traditions, made me interested in organising a South Asian pageant”.

Participants will be dressed by designers and stylists from the country of their heritage to retain authenticity, and will vie for the titles of Miss, Mr and Mrs/Ms South Asia Australia 2017.

The Pageant promises to be a cultural extravaganza and will at the same time set the stage to create awareness and discuss the domestic violence issues and its causes that many young people are faced with today.

Community Leaders from Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan were present to light the traditional oil lamp to herald the inauguration, together with a special cultural dance performance to bless the Pageant.

Only a few spots are available to participate in this year’s pageant. If interested, please call 0414 437 903.
