Brief History of the “Voluntary Outreach Club”
The Voluntary Outreach Club (VOC) had its origins in 1982 (incorporated in 1988) as a charitable organization to send financial assistance to the disadvantaged and poor in Sri Lanka, most of whom, by reason of social-economic conditions, have been left in impoverished and destitute conditions. Some of the founder members were Mr Benjamin Blaze (dec), Mrs Dorrit Blaze, Mrs Christobel Buuljens, Mrs Aldyth Ingleton, Rev John and Mrs Annette Blaze.
The conditions in Sri Lanka for the disadvantaged have not improved over the last 30 years and there is still a very real need for any help which can be given. The ever increasing cost of living, caused by many forces, is a great burden to so many and the help from the VOC is greatly appreciated and anticipated.
Currently the club supports 34 family units, 40 individuals and 3 Charitable orphanages. The fund is administered in Sri Lanka by the Rev Charles Janz who distributes the money on a monthly basis. Family Units receive Rs3000 per month and single people receive Rs2500 and we send a Christmas and mid-year bonus of the same amounts. Each application is carefully vetted by Rev Janz and information supplied is thoroughly checked prior to approval. The VOC Committee then approve the payment of the monthly allowance. Quarterly remittances are sent to Sri Lanka and amounts to approx $25,000 per year.
